March for peace in Grass Valley

Local people who want American troops brought home from Iraq will hold a peace rally and march through Grass Valley on Saturday.

They will join war protesters in other communities across the nation in a Global Day of Action on the fourth anniversary of the American invasion.

A rally and barbecue will start at 1 p.m. in the picnic area of Memorial Park on Colfax Road, hosted by the Peace Center of Nevada County. The march starts at 2:30 p.m. and will wind through downtown Grass Valley.

Marchers will conclude at St. Joseph’s Cultural Center on South Church Street with a program of speakers, including Utah Philips, and music from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Food and drink will be available.

At 7 p.m., Michael Stone and his 5 Rhythms will play for “Give Peace a Dance,” with proceeds to benefit the Peace Center.
