Man pleads no contest to having a pipe bomb

A Marysville man arrested in Grass Valley for having a pipe bomb in the back of his truck pleaded no contest to the charge in court today.

Bobby Alvin Tarp, 33, and his brother William Tarp, 37, both of Marysville, were arrested on June 19 by a Nevada County sheriff’s deputy who noticed the bomb in the back of their truck during a traffic stop on Indian Springs Road.

Both men were booked into jail and the Nevada County District Attorney’s Office later charged Bobby Tarp with unlawful possession of an explosive.

William Tarp was not charged, Assistant District Attorney Anna Ferguson said Thursday.

Bobby Tarp is expected to be sentenced August 13, she said.
