Man killed in Smartville wreck

A 35-year-old Olivehurst man was killed on Hammonton-Smartville Road late Friday morning after his vehicle veered off the road and hit a tree.

Yuba-Sutter CHP Officer Jeff Larson said a PG&E worker came upon the accident at approximately 11:55 a.m., called 911 and began CPR.

A CHP officer arrived on the scene minutes later and helped with life-saving measures.

Paramedics arrived shortly afterward and pronounced the man dead.

Larson said more information would be available later this evening.
