Lyle Turner

No services will be held for Lyle Turner of Grass Valley, who died Friday, Aug. 16, after a short illness. He was 81.

Born in Kansas, he graduated from Sterling College and the University of Kansas. He was a decorated first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and was a prisoner-of-war during World War II.

He taught school in Kansas until moving to Concord in 1956. He coached sports and taught science and math at Stanley Intermediate School in Lafayette for 29 years. He enjoyed golf, camping, cards and spending time with family and friends.



He moved to Grass Valley after retiring in 1986. He was active in the Nevada County Golf Club.

Mr. Turner is survived by daughters Joan Germeshausen of Santa Rosa and Peggy Malone and Diane Heinson, both of Danville; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Evelyn; son, Clark; and daughter Jill.




The family prefers memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
