Private burial for Lorayne Peter of Nevada City will take place Friday at Genoa Cemetery in Carson City, Nev.

Mrs. Peter died Friday, April 30, in Nevada City. She was 88.

She was born Oct. 25, 1915, in Nebraska, to Ben Hummel and Hazel (Whitfield) Givler. She graduated from high school in Nebraska. She married Frank Peter in 1941, in Omaha, Neb. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Job’s Daughters, and was president of the Easter Seals Society in Sacramento during the 1970s. She enjoyed decorating, painting and reading.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Laura Peter of Nevada City; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dale Barkman of Reno, Nev.; daughters Judith Peter of Nicolaus, and Joan Peter of Suquamish, Wash.; nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Frank J. Peter in 1979; and son, Ben A. Peter in 1993.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
