Longtime friends share their musical gifts on stage

Fellow musicians and longtime friends Lisa Nemzo and Barbara Jarrell will be reunited on stage at The Center for the Arts this Saturday, and the audience will get to share the joy of this special reunion.

Jarrell, a master of all trades (her resume reads like she’s three people), used to live locally, had a huge following and was “at the very forefront of the music scene in this area,” says local musician Eleanor McDonald.

Lisa Nemzo is considered to be in the vanguard of the new generation of female artists who not only sing but have taken the time to master their instrument and the craft of songwriting. Her craft is a winning combination of intense songwriting (compared to that of Joan Armatrading, KT Tunstall, Paula Cole and Luka Bloom); soaring vocals; and an arresting, distinctive technique on 12-string guitar. Her credits include movie/television soundtracks and extensive touring, both headlining and sharing the bill with top attractions such as Depeche Mode, Heart, David Crosby, Bonnie Raitt and Ray Charles. Her song “Restless Soul” was chosen for the Smithsonian Institute for Folk Music of the ’90s.

The music starts at 8 p.m. Admission is $18. For more information and tickets, call (530) 274-8384, ext. 14; e-mail info@thecenterforthearts.org; or go onlineat http://www.thecenterforthearts.org.
