Lois Smith

Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, at the First Baptist Church (across from Nevada Union High School), 1866 Ridge Road, Grass Valley, for Lois Smith. Mrs. Smith passed away on March 7 at her home in Colfax. She was 70.

Mrs. Smith was born on Nov. 10, 1936, to Ted and Evelyn Dix in Salinas.

She was an employee of Alameda County for 14 years and was then a social worker for Placer County for 21 years.



On Aug. 4, 1972, she married LeRoy Smith in Reno, Nev.

In Colfax, Mrs. Smith was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Lyrical Logos and the Colfax Lionesses.




Her hobbies included hiking, backpacking, skiing, bicycling, reading and traveling.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, LeRoy Smith of Colfax; sons Mark Hance of Auburn, Edward Merritt of Sacramento and Michael Hance of Olivehurst; daughters LeeAnn Finney of Colfax and Misty Kirvan of Fremont; sister, Shirley Sasenbery of Redding; brother, Ormand Dix of Walnut Creek; and 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of the Foothills or the charity of your choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper and Weaver Mortuary.
