Wreck tangles traffic on Hwy 20

A traffic collision on Highway 20 near the Brighton Street overpass and the junction with Highway 49 was reported just after 1 p.m. Monday, but no significant injuries were reported.

A woman in her 60s, driving a PT Cruiser, was driving westbound on Highway 20 when she drifted onto the right shoulder and over-corrected, said California Highway Patrol Officer Greg Tassone. She then lost control of her vehicle and crossed all the lanes, colliding with a Toyota Avalon being driven eastbound just west of the Brighton Street overcrossing.

The woman driving the PT Cruiser then ran about 80 feet off the road down an embankment into brush, Tassone said.

The Avalon came to rest blocking the eastbound lanes; the occupants, a couple in their 80s, did not report any significant injuries.

The driver of the PT Cruiser also did not suffer any serious injuries, and the roadway was cleared by 3 p.m., Tassone said.
