Wood stove replacement assistance offered in GV

The Grass Valley City Council has approved program guidelines for the implementation of the Wood Stove Replacement Program, which grants up to $2,500 to people in income-eligible households who live in the city for the replacement of their wood stoves with cleaner-burning models.

Replacement models include wood, gas or propane-fueled stoves. Applicants are required to pay 10 percent of the total cost of replacing the stove.

Applicants whose household incomes do not exceed 80 percent of Nevada County’s median income are eligible. For example, a family of four cannot make more than $40,900 annually to qualify for the program. Income-eligibility guidelines are developed by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and updated annually.

The program has approximately $35,000 in grant funds allocated through the state Community Development Block Grant Program Income Funds. The city will assist each applicant in obtaining the necessary building permits to install the stove.

Interested city residents should contact Beth Owens at 274-4344.
