Woman injured in crash on 49

A Grass Valley woman was treated for injuries after a two-car crash on Highway 49 near Alta Sierra Wednesday that snarled commuter traffic.

Beth Bernasconi, 36, was southbound at 6:20 a.m. in her 1996 Honda Civic approaching Pingree Road when the accident occurred, according to CHP Officer R. Gunning.

Vicky Ashcraft, 59, of Grass Valley, was stopped at the Pingree Road stop sign and pulled out in front of Bernasconi’s car, causing the crash, Gunning said. Ashcraft only suffered slight abrasions.

Bernasconi was taken by ambulance to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital with pain, where she was treated and released, according to hospital spokesperson Brett Bentley. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The three lanes of Highway 49 at the accident site were taken down to one lane as the California Highway Patrol handled the accident, according to an eyewitness.
