Winter driving conditions expected over I-80, Highway 50 summits

Winter driving conditions will return to the Sierra mountains Sunday through Wednesday. Snow levels are predicted to fall below 4,000 feet with snow accumulations of up to 6 inches on Donner and Echo Summits. Wet, icy and snowing conditions can prove dangerous for the unprepared driver.

Motorists are encouraged to restrict travel over the summits or prepare for winter driving conditions by doing the following:

— Allow enough time for your trip.

— Keep your gas tank full.

— Keep your windshield and windows clear.

— Leave enough stopping distance between cars.

— Check vehicle headlights, fluid levels, tires, brakes and other operating systems.

— Carry an emergency kit, blanket, water and a fully charged cell phone.
