Wind advisory throughout today

A wind advisory will be in effect until 10 p.m. tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Sacramento.

Nevada County drivers should be wary as sustained winds of 20 to 35 mph are predicted to whip the Sierra, with gusts up to 45 mph.

High profile vehicles will be particularly susceptible to the winds and all drivers should watch for blowing debris, the weather service said.

Erratic winds created six spot fires from a 15-acre wildland blaze in Penn Valley Wednesday, burning a barn and accentuating the dangers of current breezy and dry conditions in Nevada County.

Foothill temperatures are predicted to remain in the mid-60s today, rising only into the high 60s during Memorial Day weekend.

Clouds are expected to start rolling in Friday and remain through Monday, bringing a slight chance for showers and thunderstorms. Lows are expected in the upper 40s throughout the holiday weekend.
