Wilson endorses Ose for Congress

Former Gov. Pete Wilson endorsed Sacramento businessman Doug Ose in the 4th Congressional District race Tuesday, while blasting his opponent, Tom McClintock.

“I could never count on Tom McClintock,” Wilson said in a letter to district voters, recalling when he was governor in the 1990s.

Wilson added that the State Senator from Southern California voted against a car tax cut and state welfare reform while an assemblyman.

McClintock spokesman Stan Devereux said Ose’s campaign was trying to deceive voters, because McClintock wanted to ban the car tax, which eventually happened, not just cut it back.

Devereux also said McClintock bucked Wilson on welfare reform, because the former governor did not want to cap the amount of years Californians could get benefits and McClintock did.

“In the race for Congress, my support goes to Doug Ose, a local businessman and lifelong Republican with an outstanding record for taxpayers,” Wilson wrote.

Former Congressman Ose and Sen. McClintock are considered the leaders in the primary race for the GOP nomination created by the retirement of John Doolittle, (R-Roseville).

Ted Terbolizard of Nevada County and Suzanne Jones of Sacramento are also running for the Republican nomination to be decided June 3.

They will face one of two Democrats in the November general election, frontrunner Charlie Brown of Roseville, who almost beat Doolittle in 2006, or John Wolfgram of Foresthill.
