Williams to try again for Grass Valley council

Dean Williams announced Friday that he will try again for a seat on the Grass Valley City Council.

Williams ran in 2000 and now plans to run Nov. 2 on a similar platform of “slower and smarter” growth.

Over the past four years, Williams has continued to be vocal on growth issues. In 2003, he submitted a village center design for the Loma Rica development site where “we can have neighborhoods that enable one to walk from any home to the village center with little interference from cars, and where no one crosses more than one alley to make the trip,” he wrote in an opinion piece in The Union on May 12, 2003.

Traffic is still a major concern for Williams, who said in his campaign announcement Friday that he would support only one of the four Special Development Areas – massive residential developments proposed on the city’s perimeter. If approved, the developments would be annexed into Grass Valley.

“As a City Council member, I will vote to approve only one project out of the four, and whichever one that is, it will get my approval only if it is designed to minimize its impact on traffic,” Williams said in the press release announcing his candidacy.

Williams received his B.A. in psychology from San Jose State University and currently works as an office manager and hotel night auditor.
