Question: Will construction on Highway 20/49 at the Empire Street/Mill Street exit area occur during the Nevada Count Fair (Aug. 7-11)? That would be a serious disaster! — Terry Lewis, Grass Valley

Answer: “We are going to have some work done in that area, but we will not begin until 11 o’clock at night and the fair ends at that time,” said Rochelle Jenkins, a spokeswoman for the California Department of Transportation.

“We made some adjustments in our schedule to accommodate that very popular attraction,” Jenkins said.

The $8 million project on Highway 20/49 is a pavement rehabilitation job, Jenkins said, where Lincoln-based contractor Teichert is grinding the top layer of pavement and replacing it.

No two consecutive ramps will be closed at the same time, Jenkins said. Motorists can expect various lane and ramps closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Wednesday and 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Thursday and Friday.

Work on the highway bridge over Grass Valley’s streets began at the end of May and is expected to be completed by September, Jenkins said.
