Slow and focused, students in Reneé Blevins’ Cardio Barre class make a strong mind-body connection during a workout Monday at Center of Movement in downtown Grass Valley.

“Where the mind goes, the energy flows,” Blevins said. “It’s really challenging, with a lot of movement and balletic style of movement. So we get to be graceful, and we get the heart rate up before taking it back down.”

Blevins said she has been teaching Cardio Barre for four years, as well as QiGong classes, at Center of Movement, South Yuba Club, Rhythms Studio and soon at Anytime Fitness. Cardio Barre, she said, is appropriate for anyone who has not sustained a serious injury.
