Wet weather expected all week – possibly some snow

Rain and snow tonight will be the first sign of three weather systems moving into the Sierra foothills this week, expected to bring snow to Grass Valley by Wednesday.

The first system is predicted to bring rain to the foothills and snow above 6,000 today through tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Sacramento.

A second, colder system is expected to hit Wednesday, bringing more showers to the foothills, with snow levels dropping to 2,000 to 2,500 feet.

After another party sunny day Thursday, a third system is expected Thursday night, which will bring a chance of foothill showers and high Sierra snow though Sunday.

Foothills highs are expected in the upper 40s today through Sunday as the storms roll through, with lows in the mid-to lower 30s

The storms could make Sierra travel dangerous all week and motorists are urged to carry tire chains, water, food, warm clothing and a flashlight.
