Weekend’s weather will remain wild

More wild weather is expected for Nevada County through the weekend, with a possibility of snow, funnel clouds, intense lightning, hail and strong winds.

“Basically, it’s the same stuff and will stick with us through Sunday,” said Harry Stockman at the Qwikcast.com weather service. “We’ll have scattered showers off and on and most of it could be snow.”

Stockman said there will be a break in the storms Monday with another, but milder round slated to bring rain next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The potential mix of strong weather now over the county is being created by a cold, unstable pattern that could bring snow to the Sacramento Valley floor, according to the National Weather Service in Sacramento. Thunderstorms could develop in the Sierra and the valley at any time during the weekend that could bring intense lightning, strong winds, and hail. Funnel clouds are even a possibility.

Travelers are advised to carry tire chains in the mountains and to give themselves extra time to reach destinations.
