We don’t need stoned drivers

On the editorial of Aug. 31 by Jeff Ackerman and the follow up Sept. 4 by Sheriff Keith Royal dealing with the continuing problem of legalizing marijuana: The war on drugs is expensive, but do I really have to share the road with some spaced out drug user as well the driver who has just had his preferred martini? It’s a free country but there are proven laws that guide each citizen as to his or her behavior. If Mr. Ackerman wants a larger tax base, let’s try taking back the casinos and make each county build two. Prop. 19 is huge and it opens doors to problems I do not want to think about. Imagine the road signs “Don’t smoke and drive.” Let’s let Sheriff Royal get on with his work and end this debate now.
