Want voter materials? Register by Feb. 4

Nevada County residents who want to receive voter materials for the March 5 primary election have to register to vote by Feb. 4, the county Elections Office announced Thursday.

Voters must re-register if they have moved since the last election, changed their name or changed political party.

Voter registration cards must be postmarked by Feb. 4 and received at the Elections Office by Feb. 8. Voters who meet the deadline will receive a sample ballot booklet and a card notifying them of their eligibility to vote.

Residents who register after Feb. 4 but before Feb. 19 can vote in the primary election, but they will not receive election materials.

Voter registration cards are available at 70 locations throughout Nevada County, including government offices, post offices, libraries, chambers of commerce and many businesses.

Audio tapes of election-related information contained in the sample ballot booklet are available for visually impaired voters. The tapes are free and can be borrowed from the Elections Office, 10433 Willow Valley Road, Nevada City; FREED, 154 Hughes Road, Grass Valley; or Sierra Services for the Blind, 546 Searls Ave., Nevada City.

For more information, contact the Elections Office at 265-1298, or toll-free from Lake of the Pines and Truckee at 1-888-395-1298.
