Vietnam vets give scholarships to two

Students Kimberley Hubbard of Bear River High School and Elizabeth Stokes of Nevada Union High recently received $500 scholarships from Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 535.

VVA scholarships are presented to students who exemplify high overall academic standards and special achievements. Chapter president Bob Carton and scholarship committee chairman Dave Fleuti presented the scholarships during awards night ceremonies.

Funds raised throughout the year support local students, Special Olympics, Boy Scouts, Sons and Daughters in Touch (those who lost parents in Vietnam) and veterans in special circumstances.

VVA members help with Joe Cain Day, sell flags and hats at Fourth of July parades, participate in the Veterans Stand Down, and sell hot apple cider and brownies during Victorian Christmas.
