Vehicle stops lead to multiple drug arrests
County officers made four major drug arrests early this week when they stopped suspicious vehicles on various Nevada County roadways and conducted on-the-spot investigations.
At 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, county sheriff’s deputies stopped Peri Abernathy, of Grass Valley, at the intersection of Rattlesnake Road and Brooks Road when they allegedly saw her car crossing the double yellow lines and drifting into the opposite lane.
Abernathy, 49, was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs, drug paraphernalia and being under the influence of drugs. She was booked into Wayne Brown Correctional Facility, and her bail was set at $25,000.
Deputies stopped Dennis Gamble and Constance Mitchell, both of Grass Valley, at 2 p.m. Monday on LaBarr Meadows Road when they allegedly noticed Gamble was speeding and his vehicle was crossing over the double yellow lines.
Gamble, 56, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a weapon and driving under the influence of alcohol. His passenger, 44-year-old Mitchell, was arrested on suspicion of possessing heroin, drug paraphernalia, a hypodermic needle and being under the influence of drugs. Both were booked into the Nevada County jail.
The bail for Gamble and Mitchell was set at $10,000 each.
At 9:30 p.m. Monday, officers stopped Nevada City residents James Granholm and Monte Mitchell at the intersection of Gold Flat Road and Hollow Way when they allegedly noticed the registration on Granholm’s vehicle had expired.
Granholm, 55, was arrested on suspicion of driving on a suspended license and violating probation. Mitchell was arrested on multiple drug charges including possessing drugs and a hypodermic needle and selling drugs.
Both were booked into jail. Granholm’s bail was set at about $1,000, and Mitchell’s bail was set at $25,000.
Officers also arrested 36-year-old John Soulia of Marysville at the intersection of Cattle Drive and Highway 20 when they stopped his vehicle after allegedly noticing he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. Soulia, 36, was arrested on multiple drug charges including possession of marijuana and drugs for sale, transporting or selling drugs and being under the influence of drugs.
Soulia was booked into jail, and his bail was set at $35,000.
