Updated: Stonehouse owner arrested after year-long investigation into business practices

The Nevada City Police Department in partnership with state law enforcement officials arrested Nikko Wu, the owner of Nevada City’s Stonehouse Old Brewery, Tuesday night on an initial charge of willfully failing to file reports to the State of California Employment Development Department.

According to Nevada City Police Chief Tim Foley, Wu, 51, has been the subject of an investigation by local police in partnership with government officers from the Department of Alcohol and Beverage Control, Tax Recovery and Criminal Enforcement Task Force, also known as TRaCe.

“It was around a year and a half long investigation,” said Foley. “She was arrested at her place of business without incident on a multiple count felony criminal arrest warrant, and booked into county jail.”

Foley said further information on the case could not be released at this time, but added that Wu’s arrest had to do “with her business practices.”

Wu has owned the Stonehouse for more than 10 years, and is currently being held on a $200,000 bail. Stipulations of Wu’s arrest require her to surrender her passport if bail is posted.
