A pair of fires put Nevada County on alert Monday afternoon, but thanks to fast responses firefighters were able to quickly contain any threat to the communities.

The McCourtney Fire, a fire that burned about 25 acres off McCourtney and Perimeter roads southwest of Grass Valley and east of Camp Far West Reservoir, was 100 percent contained by 1:57 p.m. Monday, an official from Cal Fire said. The fire was first reported at 11:45 a.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

While area fire crews worked the McCourtney Fire in western county, firefighters were alerted to a second small fire near the Northstar California resort property near Mt. Watson Road north of Lake Tahoe.

Cal Fire officials said the fire was reported around 1:10 p.m. Monday, and six fire engines, one dozer and air tanker support were at the scene battling the blaze.

Cal Fire released all air support involved in the effort to extinguish the fire, late Monday afternoon, but ground forces were to still remain on scene with mop-up activity.
