Unemployment | TheUnion.com

In case you have not noticed, the economy has recovered. Just look at Wall Street. Earnings are soaring and P.E. ratios are low. So, why do we have this terrible unemployment problem? A recent article stated that big business was sitting on mountains of cash and was afraid to hire.

Why? I’ll offer two possibilities.

One: When times were tough, business had to run very lean to survive. As things improved, business was more quickly able to enjoy profits. In order to grow, they will eventually need to start hiring. But, why hurry? A likely possibility.

Or, two: Big business has historically been linked to the Republican Party and it would be in the best interest of big businesses to wait until after mid-term elections in hopes that the party would return to power. Lowered unemployment would then make the party look good. Less likely but more frightening.
