A 61-year-old woman was injured Monday when her Toyota van veered off Rough and Ready Road near Harmony Lane, rolled over, and hit a ditch, fire officials and the California Highway Patrol reported.

Lola Chaney, who lives near Rough and Ready, was transported to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. She was treated and released, a supervising nurse at the hospital said Monday.

Donald Chaney said his wife, who suffered bumps and bruises in the accident, drifted off the shoulder. “These roads around here are treacherous,” he said.

Rough and Ready Fire Chief Don Gannon said the top of the vehicle was caved in. Chaney said his wife’s van is totaled.

Also Monday, a juvenile suffered minor injuries when her Ford pickup truck hit a tree on Indian Springs Road near Hilltop Road in Penn Valley, fire officials said.

The minor was transported to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, said Dennis Bishop, a paramedic with the Penn Valley Fire Protection District. Her condition was unknown.

The driver said her brakes failed, Bishop said.
