Truckee’s ‘Dancing Mom’ wins contest

Truckee’s Patty Brooke is morning television’s reigning dance queen, crowned the winner Wednesday of ABC Good Morning America’s “Dancing With the Moms” challenge.

Shedding happy tears with a wide smile on her face on live television, the 54-year-old mother of three proved she can salsa with the best, dancing her way to the top of ABC’s morning version of “Dancing With the Stars,” where viewers cast votes for their favorite competitors.

“I love everyone. I’m very appreciate of the love and support,” said Brooke, speaking via cell phone from New York Wednesday morning. “I’ve enjoyed every moment I’ve been here.”

Brooke described her experience as surreal and emotional, adding, “I’m on cloud nine.” The same can be said for her friends.

“I’m all hoarse because I’ve been screaming,” said Patty Florian, one of Brooke’s Truckee friends. “I am just so excited for her.”

On Wednesday’s show, the panel of judges were enthusiastic in praising Brooke, referring to her joyful manner and quick mastery of the Latin dance steps.

“You have the glow of a champion,” said Joey McIntyre, a past member of the boy-band New Kids On The Block and a contestant on the first season of “Dancing With the Stars.”

Several of Brooke’s friends and relatives gathered to watch the Dancing Moms finale early Wednesday at Kathy Bratt’s Truckee home.

Bratt said she received a phone call with the results at 6 a.m. and then everybody started calling.

“I think we will have a party for her,” Bratt said.
