Union Hill School hosted its 15th annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Tuesday with a twist on tradition — a new tree planted just for the occasion.

Over the years, Union Hill has trimmed the large fir tree in front of its Grass Valley facility.

The fir has now become too large for the staff to put lights on its branches. Weiss Brothers Nursery donated a new fir tree, which the school planted and decorated.

School board President Dorothy Goodnow flipped the switch to illuminate the tree, and the school choir helped welcome the new addition to the campus and usher in the holiday spirit for the staff, students and families who attended the ceremony.
