Transient jailed after fight

A Texas man remained in the Nevada County jail Monday after his alleged involvement in a transient fight that sent a Mount Shasta man to the hospital.

Nevada City Police officers who responded to a reported verbal altercation at 9:45 p.m. Thursday arrived on the 200 block of High Street to find a 24-year-old man with multiple injuries to his face, according to Officer Scott Goin.

The man sustained the injuries after he allegedly referred to Joshua A. Kaiser’s girlfriend using “an offensive word,” Goin said.

The victim sustained a large laceration to the forehead, numerous contusions and several other small lacerations all over his face, according to Goin.

He was subsequently transported to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Goin did not identify the injured man Monday.

There were numerous witnesses and friends of the subjects who were involved in the altercation, Goin said. The witnesses were all transients from cities such as Pasadena, Newberry, Fla., Indianapolis and Hummelstown, Pa., according to NCPD’s report.

Kaiser, a 24-year-old transient from Texas, was subsequently booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility. He remained in custody Monday in lieu of $50,000 bail on a felony battery with serious bodily injury charge, according to the jail’s website.
