TNF burn completed

Workers with drip torches successfully completed 140 acres of prescribed burns Wednesday and Thursday on Tahoe National Forest land north of Malakoff Diggins.

The controlled burns are part of an effort launched in 1993 to reduce fire danger near rural homes, said TNF spokeswoman Ann Westling.

“They went successfully,” Westling said Thursday. “Next week, there’s a possibility that they’re going to do another 60 acre burn.”

Funding for the controlled burns comes from the National Fire Plan, a federal program meant to reduce the risk of wildfire.
