Thinking outside the box

Ben McDonald, left, and Caden Hollmer, neighbors in the “Think Outside the Cardboard Box” event at Crossroads Church, pose in a cardboard home Saturday evening. Check-in of students participating was conducted by staff members from Hospitality House Staff and simulated check-in protocol at the homeless shelter, including breathalyzing. The participants also went through job and housing readiness interviews, then listened to two guests from Hospitality House and a former guest, now housed, tell their stories. The night ended with students sleeping outside in their makeshift cardboard shelters. This event was a collaboration between Crossroads and Hospitality House in an effort to educate and raise awareness about homelessness.
