Theater can ‘change lives’

I wish to thank Foothill Theatre Company for gracing our community with their phenomenal show, “The Complete History of America (Abridged).” Although the show is hysterically funny and superbly performed, it is the courage Foothill has shown in producing this particular show that I must applaud in print.

It must have taken a great deal of fearlessness in a time of financial belt-tightening to produce a show which they had to know at the outset would alienate some elements of their traditional audience through the play’s adroit skewering of the American myth that our “national heroes” were all paragons of virtue and the dangerously false belief that our government’s actions and policies are always on the side of the angels.

Extraordinary theater can change both lives and the course of nations. Thank you, FTC, for providing us with just such a production.
