The inside story

To street rodders, the automobile is a moveable forms. Unlike the artist who works with a canvas, however, the street rodder’s creation has a an exterior, running gear and, of course, an interior. It is only when all of these are of the highest quality that it can be called a masterpiece. And that is what Dave Cubitt’s ’47 Dodge delivery truck is. Far from it’s humble beginnings delivering bread in Nevada City, Dave’s Dodge is a work of art, inside and out. A previous Roamin Angels Corner, written before the Doge was on the road, covered the exterior and much of the running gear. As a reminder, it has a GM big block 502 CID Ramjet engine, which has 502 HP and 565 FT-LB of neck-snapping torque. Even in the heavy truck it is more than enough power to motivate it down the highway. Matched to a Tremac 600 five-speed overdrive trans, it performs well in the city or one the highway. But what about comfort and class inside? It has plenty of that too. Power steering and electric-assist power front brakes with thirteen-inch slotted discs make turning and stopping are a breeze. Electric-solenoid operated doors open with a touch to gain access to the Lincoln Mark V six-way power seats that have added electric heating (desired by wife Brenda). Once inside, the VDO gauges give engine info while the custom V’ed windshield has a clear view of the road . In the center of the ceiling is mounted a combination unit that has the CD sound system as well as a screen for a back-up camera, GPS and DVD. Two doors in the back provide access for the cargo area. Although it no longer hauls bread, there is evidence of bread used in there. The floor is rich cherrywood with aluminum strips. The sides are upholstered in leather with cut-outs for a Dodge Brother logo that is being finished now and is the only thing Dave feels his truck still needs. Although they have driven it some, now Dave and Brenda are ready to take their Dodge delivery on the road. Coming up is a road trip with fellow Roamin Angels to the Grand Canyon, where the Dodge will not only look good as it cruises down the highway, but be very comfortable as well. And that’s the inside story.
