Teens busted for alleged car theft attempt

A Grass Valley man with a sharp eye spotted two people this week who he said assaulted him earlier – and his tip led to their arrest by Grass Valley Police.

On Monday, Joseph Kennard, 23, saw a young woman and a male juvenile allegedly attempting to steal his vehicle outside of his apartment on the 200 block of Sutton Way.

“He got into a physical confrontation with the juvenile, and the juvenile pulled a knife,” said Capt. Rex Marks of the Grass Valley Police Department.

Kennard released the 16-year-old juvenile and the pair ran off, Marks said.

The next day, Kennard spotted his alleged assailants in the same apartment complex, and he called the police.

Police arrested Brittany A. Stewart, 19, of Carmichael.

She was booked in to the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility on charges of attempting a crime, obstructing or resisting a police officer, and being an accessory to a crime. She remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of $10,000 bail.

The juvenile was taken to the Nevada County Juvenile Hall, Marks said.
