Taize service to see second anniversary

The second anniversary of the Taize service offered by the Grass Valley and Nevada City United Methodist churches will be at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Nevada City church, 432 Broad St.

The celebration will focus on the dedication of a Taize cross, designed and made specifically for Taize worship.

Taize (“ta-zay”) worship is named for the French town which is the home of the ecumenical Brothers of Taize. They began the contemplatively oriented approach to worship in 1940.

The service lasts about an hour. Afterwards, optional laying-on-of-hands healing prayer is offered. Prior experience with Taize or meditative prayer is not necessary.
