SYRCL to hold cleanup and restoration day

South Yuba River Citizens League will host the 13th Annual Greater Yuba River Cleanup and Restoration Day Saturday.

Volunteers will have more than 35 sites to choose from covering 90 miles of Yuba River shoreline.

A free lunch and celebration at Bridgeport will be provided after the clean-up, with live music, story-telling, music by Sabroso, entertainment by juggler Izzi Tooinsky, volunteer awards and a beer garden sponsored by the New Belgium Brewery.

New this year is the BYOB campaign: Bring your own bag and/or buckets to pick up the trash, gloves, water bottle and serving ware to the celebration. This action will reduce the amount of trash produced by the event.

Last year, 700 people volunteered in the clean-up – more than one-third of them 18 and younger.

In 12 previous clean-up days, 4,800 volunteers have removed 120,000 pounds of trash and recycling, rebuilt trails and removed invasive species during the three-hour cleanup day each year in September.
