Sutherland has tumor removed

Supervisor Robin Sutherland had a large tumor removed during the holidays, which is why she hasn’t attended morning sessions of the Nevada County board this month.

Sutherland said Wednesday that the tumor, “wasn’t cancerous and I’m healing. I was in bed for Christmas.”

Sutherland, 43, said the doctor ordered her to not attend board meetings until after Feb. 15, but she has attended afternoon sessions at the two January board meetings.

The 4th District supervisor said she did not make a public announcement about her surgery because it was a private matter and she did not want a lot of hospital visitors.

“It’s not that I didn’t want to see them,” Sutherland said. “I needed time to heal and I have to take it easy.

“It was a benign tumor that grew very rapidly.”

Sutherland said she appreciates the cards and flowers she received and expects to be back to full board meetings again after her medical leave ends in mid-February.
