Students prepare for earthquake
Students at the Park Avenue campus in Grass Valley huddled under desks as part of the Great Shake-out Drill on Thursday.
An emergency broadcast drill played over the paging system to give the drill an authentic feel. To make it more fun, a certificate for a gift card was hidden under one desk in each classroom for students to find.
Principal Mike Blake and other staff members verified each classroom had been actively involved in the drill. If the entire class participated, they received a coupon for either o ne or two free pizzas for the class to share.
It was all done in conjunction with a nationwide emergency preparedness program.
Students at the campus attend Silver Springs High School, Sierra Foothill High School, NCAL and Head Start.
