Storm may linger through today; sun to follow

A cold and wet storm that moved balmy weather out of western Nevada County late Monday will linger through today before warm, sunny weather returns Wednesday.

Rain and gusty winds could even bring isolated thunderstorms this afternoon that could last into the evening, according to the National Weather Service in Sacramento.

The storm could also leave snow down to 4,500 feet and up to 6 inches near the crest of the Sierra. Anyone traveling in the Sierra today and tonight should carry tire chains, warm clothing, water and food.

High temperatures will drop to around 50 today. Lows tonight will be in the mid-30s.

The high temperature will return to around 60 degrees on Wednesday after the skies clear, with lows that night in the high 30s. Thursday through Sunday, highs will return to the mid-60s, with lows in the low 40s. Some cloud cover could move in for the weekend.
