So much for faith in God

Regarding the article of Rev. Jones of Florida who is planning a Quran burning, two things struck me. First, I thought it was the responsibility of the Christian church to preach the Gospel? I don’t remember ever reading anything in the Bible about burning books to take a stand.

The meaning of the word Gospel is “Good News.” Where is the Good News in what they are doing? This man and his congregation are telling the non-Christian world that Christianity is a religion of hate and intolerance.

Second, I see in the article this man, like so many of the religious right, lacks real faith in God. I am sure Rev. Jones believes and preaches that God is all-powerful, all-knowing and all-loving. But just in case, I will strap on my .40-caliber pistol. Why is it that those who thump our heads with the Bible are the same ones who back the NRA, push for bigger spending in the military and elect the biggest war hawks in the government? So much for faith in the God they say they serve.
