Smoke expected from burns

Smoke could be visible across western Nevada County next Thursday or Friday from a controlled burn planned by Calfire north of Englebright Reservoir on the Richards Ranch in Yuba County.

The burn will start at 8 a.m. on one of the days, depending on the weather conditions, and will continue into the late afternoon.

Smoke may be present through the weekend from the 300-acre burn being done for a firebreak, Calfire said. Firefighters will remain on site through the evening and into the next day to make sure the burn does not escape.

The smoke will be visible from Grass Valley, Nevada City, Highway 20, Penn Valley, Lake Wildwood, Smartville, French Corral, North San Juan, and the Yuba County communities of Dobbins and Oregon House.
