Sierra Writers Conference returns to Sierra College

Sierra College and The Sierra Writers will host the Fourth Annual Writers Conference on Jan. 26 at Sierra College's Grass Valley Campus. Doors open at 9:15 a.m. for a full day of workshops. The event will give participants the opportunity to hone their craft, collaborate with other writers and participate in professional critique sessions. Workshops and presentations include "The Cat and the Pickle Dish: Creating Compelling Narratives Using Details Foreign and Familiar" with Mary Volmer; "Blacken Thy Page" with Gene Bergson; "From Page to Stage: Public Speaking Tips for Writers Before, During, and After Publication" with Betsy Fasbinder; "Audience Development: How to Build and Earn the Audience for Your Writing" with Julie Baker; "Fictional Techniques for the Memoirist" with Sands Hall; "Lessons Learned after Writing Eighteen Novels" with Larry Gold; "Spilling Family Secrets" with Patricia Dove Miller; and "Process: Turn Personal Stories into Compelling Fiction" with Catharine Bramkamp. Keynote speaker Josh Weil will give a talk entitled, "Into Your Fear: Writing What Scares You," followed by critique workshops. To register, visit to find out more.
