Sheriff’s office sends van north

From left, Sierra County Sheriff’s Deputy Dan Cross, Sierra County Search and Rescue volunteer Lance Baldwin, Sierra County Sheriff John Evans and Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday donated a search and rescue van no longer needed locally to Sierra County. All of Sierra County’s search-and-rescue vehicles are donated by larger, “big brother” agencies, Sierra County Sheriff John Evans said. His agency has the smallest sheriff’s office in the state, he added.

“We’re grateful to have it,” Evans said.
