Behind the ideas and efforts toward building a better world, volunteers fuel a movement of compassion and connection. By sharing your time and talents to help others, you can help bring a sense of hope to our hearts, homes, neighborhoods, and ultimately our nation.
Everyone is invited to share their time and talents with Nevada County nonprofits, public agencies and schools. Accident, liability and excess auto insurance are provided, and mileage reimbursement is available for people older than 55. RSVP is part of the Corporation for National and Community Service and sponsored locally by the Area 4 Agency on Aging.
Help develop a caring community. A volunteer is needed to gather and research community and online resources helpful to caregivers in Nevada County. Good organizational and computer skills helpful.
Be part of the solution
Child advocacy group is looking for volunteers that can work in pairs to present an anti-bullying and social skills curriculum to fourth and fifth graders for a 10-week program. Time commitment is once a week for one hour plus travel time. Orientation/training will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 1. Lunch provided.
Love to cook?
Adult day care center in Penn Valley is looking for volunteers to help cook, plan and prepare lunchtime meals for 20 to 30 seniors. Help is needed on Mondays, Tuesdays or Fridays. This is a wonderful service opportunity for a creative person that loves to cook and enjoys preparing healthy, well-balanced meals for seniors.
Do you enjoy driving the scenic foothills? Volunteers are needed once a week or on a substitute basis to deliver noontime meals to homebound seniors. This is a great way to help your Nevada County neighbors and provide a wonderful and much needed service and can be a good activity for couples or friends to do together.
Friends of the Library is in need of a strong able-bodied person on Wednesday mornings to carry boxes of books. If you have an interest in books and enjoy working with others, this is a wonderful way to support our libraries. Access to a pickup truck is a plus.
Volunteers are needed to share an hour of their time on a weekly basis with a neighbor who has become isolated due to the loss of a loved one or a disability. This is a social visit, and you are matched with someone of like interest and in your neighborhood.
