Join Partners in English Language Learning (PiELL) as a member of the Board of Directors. The program matches volunteer tutors with adult learners to help them, one-on-one with the English language, citizenship, and assimilation into the local culture. PiELL is seeking executive board members to serve as Treasurer and Secretary, and also for board directors at large to serve as grant writers (training is provided for each of these areas). Board membership involves participation in quarterly board meetings, committees, and fundraising activities. Skills Required Training provided. Grant writing experience would be a plus. Hours: Days and hours are flexible.

This is a wonderful opportunity to be of assistance to citizens and the general public visiting our government center. Nevada County Information & General Services is looking for volunteers to assist as Lobby Greeters at the Rood Center in Nevada City. Volunteer Greeters acts as a principal point of reference and assistance to citizens/general public by providing patrons with information, directions and a friendly face as they enter the Rood Center County building. Volunteer Greeters should have a sincere desire to communicate effectively and provide assistance as needed. Volunteer Greeters should always act as ambassadors of Nevada County and are expected to speak positively. Days needed: 5 days per week (split between several people).Time of day: approx 10-2pm. Shift length: 1-4 hours per day.

Do you have three hours to give? To a homebound senior waiting to receive Meals on Wheels, those three hours are priceless. Call today to find out how you can join more than 50 other volunteers who drive one day per week to ensure that our elderly neighbors receive the nutritional support they need to remain living in their own homes for as long as they can. Skills Required: Able to pass GCCS background check, volunteer one day per week for a 2-3 hour period of time. Possess a reliable vehicle, a current CDL, auto insurance, and a clean DMV record. Ability to read maps/ GPS. A cell phone is also helpful. Days needed: Mon- Fri Time of day: 10:30 to 1:30 Shift length: 3 hours a week Training is provided and mileage reimbursement is available.
English Literacy Tutors Needed in Truckee
The Truckee Library’s Read Up Literacy Program is seeking four patient, motivated volunteer tutors who speak, read and write English fluently to give individualized instruction to four adult community members who are interested in improving their reading, writing and communication skills. The adult students’ goals include: become more “professional employees”; help children with their homework; enroll in community education classes; or study for their high school equivalency test. A five hour literacy/ESL tutor training will be scheduled in October, 2015 at a mutually convenient time. Tutor guides and student workbooks including the Official Guide to the high school equivalency test are provided free. Skills Required: Knowledge and experience with the English language, reading comprehension, writing, basic math skills. Days Needed: Monday through Friday Time of day will be decided through student and tutor.
Assistant Director Needed for the Nevada County Diaper Project
Since its first diaper distribution in January 2009, the Nevada County Diaper Project has helped provide more than 5,000 diapers per month to young families in the county who are receiving assistance through Interfaith Food Ministry. Presently, the NCDP is in need of an Assistant Director who, while working alongside the Director, will operate the Diaper Project for at least one year. This position would possibly assume Director in the future. This is also a volunteer position. The Director is responsible for overseeing the monthly dispersment of diapers to local distribution sites, maintaining records of the inventory, filing year-end tax forms, applying for grant money, and overall publicity with regard to fundraising. Skills Needed: Computer skills are a must. We presently use Microsoft EXCEL for the inventory records, Microsoft WORD for documents and Quicken for our financial record keeping. Hours: Approximately 3 hours a week.
