Rotary honors five for service

The Grass Valley Rotary Club will honor five people for their service to the community at the second-annual Community BBQ Friday at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

Public safety awards will be presented Sheriff’s Lt. Ron Smith and Bill Beard, an investigator for the county District Attorney’s Office.

Dennis Fournier, executive director of Hospice of the Foothills, will receive the health service award, and volunteers Edi Silverman and Donna Carver will be honored with Bill Schultz community service awards.

Tickets for the barbecue, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, are $15 for those 11 and older and $5 for children, and are available at the door. A canoe, two mountain bikes, and a guitar will also be raffled off at the event.

Money raised by the event will go to the Community/Senior Center, reforestation of the fairgrounds, and other community activities.
