Rotary Duck Race to take place Sept. 11

The 19th annual Duck Race, presented by the 49er Breakfast Rotary Club of Nevada City, is from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sept. 11 in the ERA Cornerstone Realty parking lot on Deer Creek in Nevada City. Each year, there is a special theme for the Duck Race, and this year it’s “KenDucky Derby.”

“The Duck Races have been the 49er Rotary Club’s primary fundraiser for the past 18 years,” said Larry Meek, this year’s Ducktator. “All the proceeds from ticket sales and food sold at the event go to Rotary projects in the community and around the world.” The Ducktator role is filled each year by the club’s president-elect.

Besides the duck races (there are five different races and a final Grand Prize Race), there will be lots of games for kids, face painting and music. Food will be available from Jim E’s of Club 141. Returning is DucKeno, where participants can win a duck to be entered into the final race for the top prize of $5,000. A $5 ticket provides the chance to win cash, with a third-place prize of $500 and a second-place prize of $1,000.

Tickets can be purchased from 49er Rotarians, local students selling them to fund-raise for their school, at the KNCO offices, Briar Patch, Paulette’s Country Kitchen, any Citizens Bank branch, or at the race itself.
