Rossi takes second after engine failure

Local Sports

MONTEREY – Nevada City’s Alexander Rossi raced to a second place finish Sunday in the second of two Formula BMW Americas races at Laguna Seca.

Rossi, who qualified third, moved up to second place after the race leader went off track after the opening lap. In addition to his runner-up run, Rossi also recorded a new lap record (1:27.68) for Formula BMW cars at Laguna Seca.

The second-place finish provided positive note on which for Rossi to end the weekend, as his run in Saturday’s race – which he led the first 14 laps – ended with a blown engine.
