Rob Rowen, Jim Reed scheduled for local Candidate Night Thursday evening

Two candidates from different races are scheduled to attend a “Candidates’ Night” forum Thursday at the Eric Rood Administrative Center.

Rob Rowen, a Democrat running for Republican state Sen. Ted Gaines’ seat, and Democrat Jim Reed, who’s challenging Republican U.S. Rep. Doug LaMalfa, will attend the 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. event at 950 Maidu Ave., Nevada City.

The event, sponsored by the local League of Women Voters, will focus on races in the U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives and state Senate.

The League invited all candidates, which include U.S. Senate contenders Kamala Harris and Loretta Sanchez, as well as Gaines and LaMalfa.

Only Rowen and Reed are expected to attend.

The League initially had scheduled a Grass Valley Council candidate night for Oct. 20, though it’s since been canceled.

Only Councilman Ben Aguilar said he could attend. The others either are out of town or didn’t respond, said Anne DeWitt, with the League, in an email.

Incumbent council members Jan Arbuckle, Howard Levine and Lisa Swarthout have no competition and are assured re-election.
