Roamin Angels to host Chubby Checker

On his “50th Anniversary of the Twist” tour rock and roll legend Chubby Checker is scheduled to make a stop in Grass Valley. Mayor Lisa Swarthout is expected to present Checker with the key to the city during a Saturday appearance at the annual Crusin’ the Pines Car show at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. The presentation is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Checker is best known for popularizing the dance style Twist with his 1960 hit cover of Hank Ballard’s R&B hit “The Twist.”

The 11th Annual Roamin Angels Car Club’s Car Show is one of the largest classic car in Northern California. Last year the event showcased more than 800 pre-1972 American-made cars. Along with the exceptional exhibition of vehicles, the car show boasts artisans and craft vendors as well as a variety of food booths. Proceeds from the car show are donated to community organizations, provide scholarships to local high schoolers, fund an annual toy drive and more.

At 8 p.m. on Saturday evening The Center for the Arts is planning to host Checker and the Wildcats in concert at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium on 225 S. Auburn St.

Space will be available on the Vet’s Halls dance floor for Twistin’ the night away.

Tickets are available for priority seating and a meet-and-greet with Checker prior to the concert at TheCenterForTheArts.org. 쇓
